Chantry Place partners with Anglian Waste to save 88 tonnes of food from landfill

Attleborough-based Anglian Waste Recycling marked ‘Food Waste Action Week’ with a landmark 88 tonnes of food waste recycled for Chantry Place shopping centre in the last 12 months.

As the initiative made a return for 2024, the spotlight once again focussed on efforts to halve food waste by 2030.

Anglian Waste Recycling has worked with Chantry Place for a number of years on its waste reduction and recycling. Collaborating closely with businesses and organisations throughout East Anglia, Anglian Waste Recycling specialises in the removal and recycling of all types of waste, with food waste being a growing area.

Waste and Recycling Director for Anglian Waste Recycling, Ryan Marshall said: “Over the last twelve months we’ve collected just over 88 tonnes of food from Chantry Place which has gone for anaerobic digestion in and around the surrounding area.

"At Anglian Waste Recycling, we wholeheartedly support this mission as our values resonate with this ambitious goal. Through our innovative processes, we transform this waste into valuable resources such as biogas and agricultural fertilisers, contributing positively to both environmental sustainability and community well-being. Our ultimate goal with any business is to make the process as easy as possible.

“At Chantry Place, we provide multiple bins to all food outlets to collect as much food waste as possible. We sort, treat and collect the waste and provide guidance on how to recycle efficiently and effectively. With a mission centred on responsibly managing waste and metal collected from our customers and generated by our operations, we are steadfast in our pursuit of achieving a zero-waste-to-landfill goal.

"By doing so, we aim to make a positive contribution to mitigating climate change and reducing the carbon footprint in our region.”

As well as Chantry Place, Anglian Waste Recycling also supports businesses including the Norfolk Showground, Snetterton Racecourse and Norwich School. Businesses in East Anglia interested in waste management advice can sign up to receive a free waste audit from Anglian Waste Recycling here.
