Anglian Waste Recycling & RSPCA Mid Norfolk & Suffolk join forces

Waste materials from one of East Anglia’s most well-loved animal charities is set to be sustainably recycled within the region for the first time, thanks to a new partnership between RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk Branch and Anglian Waste Recycling.

Anglian Waste Recycling, a waste management company based in East Anglia has partnered with local animal charity, RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk Branch to help reduce the amount of waste that would end up in landfill.

RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk has selected Anglian Waste Recycling as its sustainability partner for its charity shops across Norfolk including Cromer, Attleborough, Norwich and its main office in Ashwellthorpe.

Instead of waste being sent for processing outside of the region, commercial waste will be processed at Anglian’s 10-acre site in Attleborough, Norfolk.

Anglian Waste Recycling has been in operation since 2007 and is the fastest-growing waste management company and metal recycling facility in the East Anglian region.

Anglian responsibly dispose of waste and metal collected from its clients and produced by themselves with the aim of reaching zero waste to landfill. The waste management company provide services to both domestic and commercial customers which include, commercial waste collections, skip and RORO hire, and metal recycling.

Ryan Marshall, Director of Waste and Recycling, at Anglian Waste Recycling commented: “It’s a great opportunity for us at Anglian to work with a non-profit, especially such a great charity, the RSPCA. Waste is a growing sustainability priority for many organisations, but particularly in the field of retail. We’re looking forward to making a real difference to the RSPCA in our region.”

The RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk Branch which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, provides animal welfare services and support. The charity also runs several educational workshops throughout the year including going into schools and discussing the dangers of litter to wild animals and pets. The national RSPCA receives 5,000 phone calls every year just for wild animals injured by litter.

The partnership arose after Anglian Waste Recycling performed its free waste audit which identified opportunities for the RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk branch to improve its recycling rates and reduce costs. The partnership included the installation of 14 bins across the various charity shops in the region and three bins located at its main office in Ashwellthorpe.

When asked about the partnership, Kate Morgan, Income and Generation Manager, RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk shared: “I’m really excited about the partnership with Anglian Waste. We love the fact that they are local and just down the road in Attleborough which means that all our waste that is generated will stay within the county which is really important as previously it was being shipped further afield.”

To engage with the younger generations about the importance of waste management and sustainable practices, Anglian Waste Recycling launched The Anglian Green Scheme. The scheme offers a range of free educational resources including workshops and activities to primary schools that align with the school curriculum.

Commenting on the partnership, Leanne Neave, Education and Events Manager, RSPCA Mid Norfolk and North Suffolk said: “the link between our education programme and the one with Anglian Waste is fantastic. It’s important that we all do our part to educate the younger generations and the wider public about the importance of proper waste disposal for the environment and our wildlife.”

Anglian Waste Recycling works with a range of clients across the visitor economy, leisure, retail and education sectors.
